The Southern Costa BravaS'AgaroAn upmarket area with a magnificent residential zone with luxury estates set apart by attractive gardens, squares, fountains and groves near to the sea. The Ronda de S'Agaro road is a good example of a residential area harmoniously blending into the Mediterranean landscape. Several coves border the Camino de Ronda in S'Agaro, La Conca being very beautiful. Sant Feliu de GuixolsLocated in the inlet of the same name, which begins in Punta de Levante and ends in Punta de Garbi, Sant Feliu de Guixols is one of the most important towns along the Costa Brava. It played an important historical role in the past and produced a sizeable income through its thriving cork industry of yesteryear. It has an important port and there are a number of interesting monuments, of which the Porta Ferrade of the parish church and the Arch of Sant Benet are noteworthy examples. The Square of the Town Hall, the Paseo del Mar and the Museum extend beyond the urban confines. Tossa de MarCalmer, prettier and more sophisticated than its nearby neighbour, Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar is one of the most attractive towns on the Costa Brava. The main appeal of the resort - other than its beaches - is its Villa Vella, or Old Town. With its perfectly preserved ancient defensive walls and watchtowers, the resort is best approached by boat for an impressive view. This ancient quarter is characterised by narrow cobbled streets and brightly coloured flowers trailing down white walls, with fabulous views over the coast. Tossa de Mar has four beaches - the main one is the blue-flagged Platja Gran, which offers the full range of facilities on its curved bay. Also worth checking out is Mar Menuda - it's often a bit less crowded.
High Rise Hotels by the Beach at Lloret de Mar Lloret de MarGone to a large extent its village origins, Lloret de Mar is an unashamedly brash and modern resort, with fairly ordinary beaches thronged with sun-seekers in high season and a wide array of restaurants, bars and cafes. If you are after a taste of "the real Spain", then this is not the place for you but if you are keen to sunbathe all day and party all night, you'll be happy here as this is the Costa Brava’s “nightlife centre”. Water World - Europe's biggest water theme park with a rides for all ages – is also close by. BlanesBlanes is the first of the resort towns on the Costa Brava, within easy reach of Barcelona. With a pleasant coastline - stretching for 4 kilometres – ranging from isolated coves to tourist-oriented wide, sandy beaches. It has two fabulous botanical gardens. The Pinya Rosa Gardens house more than 7000 species from all over the world and its collection of yucca palms is renowned as being one of the best in Europe. The Mar I Mirtra Gardens caters for gorgeous coloured tropical flowers, cacti and regional plants plus poisonous and medicinal plants among the 4000 plant species on display. There is also a medieval castle and an ancient palace to be visited. On a hilltop behind the town, the 12th century Santa Barbara Chapel can be found, with a watchtower from which the approach of invaders towards the coastline used to be monitored, and a chapel bell that was rung to warn the locals of the danger. The 603-berth Port de Blanes Marina has a full range of amenities and is located within the fishing port. |
